The New Book
(from the back cover of the book, published by McGraw-Hill in December, 2004)
Can tennis really be this simple?
Just ask the dozens of world class players who made it to the top using Oscar Wegner's groundbreaking approach. But if playing tennis isn't easy for you, if you never seem to play up to your potential, don't blame yourself - blame the coach that taught you a lot of uselessly complex techniques. Play Better Tennis in 2 Hours is your guide to tennis as the pros play it - more intuitive, more fluid, and more fun. World-renowned tennis coach and ESPN commentator Oscar Wegner shows you how to focus your efforts on one thing - hitting the ball correctly. Follow the simple drills in this power-packed handbook, and you'll learn how to:
Move to the ball efficiently and fluidly
Stop worrying about foot position and stance
Hit every stroke harder and more accurately
Put a wicked topspin on your forehand
Master both one- and two-handed backhands
Combine control and power on your volleys
Put more speed and spin into your serve and more punch in your return.
"Known and respected all around the world, Oscar has given us another great contribution to tennis with this book". Gustavo Kuerten - three time French Open champion, No. 1 in the world 2000.
"Oscar is a great coach. He helped me regain my strokes and my feel for the ball". Bjorn Borg, five-time Wimbledon Champion, six-time French Open Champion, helped by Oscar to make a successful comeback to tennis after a 10 year layoff.
The 1992 Book
Bud Collins, shown here on the left, is the senior tennis commentator in the world as well as the top journalist and tennis historian. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Oscar Wegner and his teaching method. The author of this book, on the right, has been called "the guru of modern tennis", and "the father of modern tennis", and has been recognized as the most advanced tennis teacher in the world.
Do not be misled by the title of this revolutionary book, published first in 1990, and again in 1992, thinking it is just a book for beginners. It could be easily called "Play tennis EXACTLY like the Pros", and it is causing an evolution in the world of tennis instruction. (256 pages, with pictures and illustrations)
These techniques were used both in Spain in the 1970's and in Brazil in the 1980's, laying the groundwork for incredible results that are still confounding the experts. They were used by Richard Williams to teach Venus and Serena.
They are now slowly penetrating the USA, which is still lagging behind in its tennis teaching methodology.
