Hi Oscar, hope you don't mind me getting in touch, i've been a squash player for the last 25 years but have now stopped playing competitively. I recently became a member of a Social Club which has a tennis section and was persuaded by some of the members to play and to my horror Iwas absolutely terrible smashing the ball al over the place but never in court. I sent for your Beginners Course and my game has improved 500%, to my amazement and most of the players at the club think I've had private coaching, which I suppose is basically true. Dear Oscar: I am writing to tell you about the success I have had with you system of vcr tapes which I purchased. I am 54 years old and my game was going down hill. I was missing shots I used to make. I had less and
less confidence. As soon as I started watching your tapes I was shocked to see that I have been doing many things completely wrong from the start. And your explanations made complete sense.

I basically practiced my new shots and new ways of preparing for shots against a backboard and in my weekend doubles games. I even leaned a board against my garage door. Almost immediately my game changed. I
started making shots I couldn't risk before. My shorter swing has much more power. And my friends started noticing! I have not told them about the tapes. I have been accused of secretly taking a trip to a ScottsdaleResort. Today I was told (again) that I am playing way over my head.

Oscar,
I purchased your video series about a year ago. It has made a big difference in my understanding of the game. My game has improved from a 3.5 to 4.5 playing 2 to 3 times a week. I intend to take your advise one of these days and get a piece of plywood tilted at 45* to practice volleys. That will improve my serve & volley game tremendously I'm sure.
The count to 5 after the bounce has helped me beyond measure. It does several things. Not just your timing, it keep your focus away from thinking of all that other stuff "teaching pros" tell you and lends to a single mindedness like playing in the zone.
For fitness I am doing the super slow system for the last 3 months which has increase my ability to get low for shots and to jump into my serve with out the fatigue in my legs. It's made a hug difference in my mobility. My weakness is my lower back. Is there a specific exercise that addresses the lower back or core strength? My age if it's relevant is 40.

Hi Oscar,
For the last three years I have been digesting all your words of wisdom. Because of your logical, revolutionary, simple techniques, my game has improved tremendously. Everytime I watch one of your tapes, I learn something new; however, I must admit for some time I did not quite understand your technique of hitting below the sweetspot for more power and feel. I struggled with the concept for many months thinking to myself, "Oscar has been right every single time. I must trust him again, even if it doesn't make sense at this time." Like I said Oscar, I heard what you were saying, but was a bit afraid to try it. This past weekend I made an effort to try your advise. Like always you were right on target. This technique helped me take some of the topspin off my shot(sometimes I hit a little too much topspin when a powerful shot is needed to end the point) and really pound the ball into the corners. This came really easy on forehands. What all was going on? Was it my focusing more on hitting lower on the sweetspot causing me to wait more? Somehow it seems like other factors were involved than just the contact point. I could definitely be wrong. Also, I have a one handed backhand. Do I try to hit lower than the sweetspot on this shot too?
Oscar, thanks so much for all you do. I sure wish I would have ran into you about twenty-five years ago. Oh well, as a tennis instructor, I am making an impact on about 25 student's lives. My 8 and 9 year old students are really hammering the ball. Some high school/college coach is going to inherit some great players from Summerville, SC in a few more years thanks to you.
Can you recommend some good drills or drill books? I want to keep my clinics fresh. Is there a format I should be following during my one hour clinics to make the class informative and fun? Thanks again, D. F.

I have followed what you said, and finally understand what you were saying, that tennis really is easy. When you do the strokes that way, it becomes automatic; the only thing really to be concerned about is where to place it. I have not mastered it completely, but have gotten much better. Hi Oscar,
I'm not surprised at the problems getting teaching pros to adjust. Ihave been trying to get some of my friends to change their strokes ever so slightly, not revealing everything yet because I know they won't do it if I do. I have had some success with a couple of them and expect that their success will encourage others.
As my 7 year old improves, I will get involved with her school tennis team and start working with youngsters there. By the way, I even got my wife out on the court and she hates to sweat. She had a blast and is looking forward to the weekend to play again.
I have joined the tennis army and will stay in touch. Thanks again Oscar, K.
